Hydrocarbon Waste Disposal – Goldfields & Mid-West

Solid Hydrocarbon Waste Disposal for Mining and Industrial Sites

Workshops and maintenance areas generate a steady stream of oil-contaminated material. Oily rags, filters, absorbents and hoses need to be kept separate from general waste. Mixing solid hydrocarbon waste with general waste creates fire, contamination and compliance risks.

Simplify Hydrocarbon Waste Disposal

GCW supplies purpose-built 2.6m³ steel hydrocarbon bins and collects contaminated waste from mining, industrial and commercial sites. We can provide single or multiple bins on a scheduled or one-off basis. Our crews, trucks and bins are based permanently in Kalgoorlie, Leonora and Geraldton, with regular service runs through the regions and fast call-out for a full bin.

Hydrocarbon Waste Handled Through Documented Disposal Pathways

GCW handles and transports solid hydrocarbon waste under our controlled waste licences (categories A to Z). Every load is documented through our structured reporting processes, including WA’s Controlled Waste Tracking System, and directed to a licensed facility through DWER- and EPA-compliant disposal pathways. We operate to the standard your head office demands, and we can demonstrate it.

What Is Solid Hydrocarbon Waste?

Solid hydrocarbon waste is any solid material contaminated with oil, diesel, fuel, lubricant or other hydrocarbons. It’s usually the by-product of running and maintaining plant and equipment. On WA mine and industrial sites, that can include material coming out of workshops, wash-down bays and spill clean-ups:

Oily rags and oil pads

Oil filters

Oil absorbent materials

Hydraulic hoses

Empty cartridges and containers

Drums

Hydrocarbon-contaminated soil

GCW’s purpose-built 2.6m³ steel hydrocarbon bins keep these materials contained and separated from your general waste stream, ready for licensed collection. They have full-width opening steel lids and can be lifted by front lift equipment or forklift.

Hydrocarbon Waste Disposal FAQs

What is solid hydrocarbon waste?

Hydrocarbon waste is material contaminated by petroleum-based substances such as oils, diesel, fuels and lubricants. It can include both liquid and solid waste. Our hydrocarbon bins are built for solid hydrocarbon waste such as oily rags, filters, absorbents, hydraulic hoses and contaminated soil. If you have liquid hydrocarbon waste, call GCW to discuss the possible disposal pathways.

What size hydrocarbon bins does GCW provide?

GCW provides purpose-built 2.6m³ steel hydrocarbon bins with full-width opening lids. The bins can be handled by front-lift equipment or a forklift. We can arrange single or multi-bin deliveries depending on your site and waste volumes.

Can hydrocarbon waste go in a general waste bin?

No, hydrocarbon-contaminated material should not be mixed with general waste. It should be separated and handled according to its classification and the applicable disposal pathway. Dedicated bins make this segregation much easier, especially on busy sites like workshops and maintenance facilities. If you’re unsure whether something belongs in your general waste or hydrocarbon bin, call GCW first.

Does GCW collect hydrocarbon-contaminated soil?

Yes. Hydrocarbon-contaminated soil falls within GCW’s solid hydrocarbon and contaminated waste scope. The correct handling and disposal pathway depends on the material’s classification and contamination. Let us know where the soil came from and what it was exposed to, so we can arrange the appropriate collection. We also supply 3m3 to 30m3 skip bins as part of our General Waste Collection service.

Does GCW provide scheduled hydrocarbon bin collections?

Yes. We supply bins and provide hydrocarbon waste disposal in Goldfields & Mid-West as part of regular site servicing or for a one-off requirement, planned maintenance, shutdown or clean-up. Collection frequency can be planned around your waste volumes and operating schedule, with additional servicing arranged when requirements change.

Can GCW service remote mine sites?

Yes. GCW provides mining-grade waste management services to mine sites, exploration programmes, camps and other remote operations. Our scope includes solid and liquid waste, hydrocarbon waste disposal, scrap metal and shutdown support. And because we have people, trucks, yards and equipment permanently based in Kalgoorlie, Leonora and Geraldton, we mobilise sooner for more reliable support.
